If you haven’t already got a website get started on getting one together. You maybe thinking with Facebook, Instagram and all these social mediums now that you don’t need a website and that is completely wrong, and I’m going to talk about why that is now.
The reason so many websites don’t convert or produced desired results is because they are not positioned for it. Web sites need to be worked on and improved all the time. It should be the central hub of your business & brand. A digital place that you have full control over its function, design and results if you know how to get them.
First once you have a website it’s important to understand that people won’t come to your website unless they hear about it somewhere or they are directed to it from another location. SEO is one of the most effective ways to get organic website visitors.
SEO is the process of manipulating your site and distributing your content so it preforms better on search engines and can be found on media sites. While SEO can be intimidating as it takes many hours to do on a high level and often needs to be done on a regular basis. If your website is positioned correctly your SEO campaigns should pay for themselves.
Think of an advertisement. Once you have figured out how much it costs for 1 sale you should do the same with your website views. How many website visitors do you need to sell 1 item and with an SEO campaign how long will it take to pay off, and what your budget is from that. You can always improve your website to get more sales instantly, but SEO is something that needs time and hard work on its side.
I have found personally that SEO has become even more important to myself and my business since Facebook and other social mediums have changed their systems so that businesses are no longer favoured for organic growth. I remember about 3 years ago now, I was playing in bands regularly and building a Facebook presence was really easy, in fact easier than what it is on Instagram now. I remember we did a campaign to get more likes on our page and we paid something like 3c per like, which is ludicrous if you think about that now.
The other really important thing to note is, you should never be held hostage to a single social media platform, and the reason is because like I said before. Businesses that benefited from Facebook in the early days before they changed their system & algorithms, if those businesses didn’t spread themselves across other social mediums and also depended on Facebook for a large amount of their income, those business would have seen a huge reduction in their sales, and it would have happened so fast, that many of them would have gone out of business. So, it’s important to master Facebook and your other social mediums but it’s also important to consistently improve your website and work on getting more website traffic.
Some websites that I have noticed that have huge amounts of website traffic, act like media companies. What I mean by that is their blog and website information is so huge that they might as well be Wikipedia. Positioning your website as a hybrid media site and business hub is a great way to find that medium of large amounts of website views but also growing sales & revenue. Writing regular blog posts or articles on your website can go a very long way towards you SEO campaign and is a must in all SEO strategies. Videos are also now very important. A lot of the time now when you google things, like ‘how to’s’ you will find that video’s come up, so that’s a huge opportunity as well.
Insure your website is listed on your social media accounts. I know myself when I find a business on Facebook one of the first things I do is I go to their about section, and straight to see if they have a website. Why? Because I know their website is going to give me the most information in the clearest way about who they are, where they are and what they do. There is so much you can do with a website that you can’t on social mediums that makes it a must.
